Food Basics

What can my food do for me?

Our food becomes ‘us’. What we eat blends into the fabric of our body and emotions– of who and what we are. There is a direct relationship of our nutrition to the vitality of the mind and body.

This info will help you to demystify eating and food choices and help make sense of the ridiculous amount of bad and good information bouncing all around us from the media.

We live in an age where we could be eating like royalty, but because of the lack of good information our choices appear limited to what the food industry puts on the grocery store shelf, or on the menu at a restaurant. We are the most marketed-to population ever. One hundred years ago, no one told people what to eat. There was no pre-made food. Today people believe that food industry ‘foods’ are their only choice, and our health suffers tremendously.

Foods in their freshest and least processed state are the perfect complement to the human body.  Our bodies must be fueled, repaired and renewed, and all this can only be done optimally with real food. Anything less is diminishing our energy and weakening us.

What is a diet? It’s our regular, everyday food. It needs to supply us with everything we need to be healthy and stay healthy. That means it has to meet these basic requirements:

  1. Supply quality nutrients, both large and small
  2. Provide a ‘just right’ amount of those nutrients for the individual—not too much and not too little.
  3. It must be safe- not hurt us, poison us or bring in poison tag alongs
  4. Supply arising energy
  5. Have minimal turbidity to it
  6. Support a healthy pH level in body tissue
  7. Contribute to the balance of all the energy systems of the body

Then, to please us, and thus become a habit, our food needs to:

  • Appeal to our senses of taste, smell, touch (how it feels in the mouth and as we chew it), and sight… and even the sounds we recognize as it’s being prepared and presented to us.
  • Satisfy our hunger and appetites.
  • Be as simple or complex to prepare and clean-up as we like, or can handle.
  • Be as affordable as we like, or can handle.
  • Be transportable, if we need it to be, so we can have good food wherever we go.
Food Basics is the place to get acquainted with how all this comes together!
